Standardized Patient Education
Tackle complex educational challenges through human simulation
Any curriculum built on the RealCME platform can integrate a live, digital Standardized Patient (SP) education component with trained Standardized Patients, accessible to any learner with a computer or smartphone. These sessions provide a safe, controlled setting in which participants may further master clinical, telehealth, and interpersonal skills and increase their confidence in many aspects of care delivery.
The human interaction that is integral to SP-based education and increasingly important in health professional continuing education, has been previously limited by the constraints of time and location. As health care professionals are increasingly working within team models in value-based care settings, educators face significant challenges with traditional educational models which are not well suited to address many of the “hard to teach” skills that are now critical for the successful practitioner.
Fortunately, SP-based education can be extremely useful in improving these skills, which include:
• Communication skills
• Listening skills
• Video visit (telehealth) skills
• Speaking with an unhappy patient
• Talking about adherence
• Discussing social determinants
• Tailoring patient management
• Shared Decision Making
