Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
- Outline current algorithm recommendations for type 2 diabetes management from two writing groups: one assembled by AACE/ACE and another by the ADA/EASD.
- Describe the characteristics and physiologic functions of the renal sodium-glucose co-transport proteins
- Outline the mechanism of action of SGLT-2 inhibitors and discuss its therapeutic potential to address current unmet needs in the treatment of type 2 diabetes
- Summarize the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of emerging SGLT-2 inhibitors and assess their potential role in the treatment of type 2 diabetes
